Benefits of Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is the ideal yoga practice for both deep meditation and a transformation of the physical body. A regular practice of yin yoga will make you flexible, strong, and balanced. It will allow you to feel deeply into your body and experience a sense of peacefulness and calm.

Since yin yoga postures are held for longer periods of time, the poses allow for a deep stretch. A profound sense of surrender melts the tension from the core of the body drawing you closer to your true self. At first there may be layers of resistance but beneath the layers a deep reservoir of calm is available with the practice of yin yoga. It is important to find the edge between comfort and discomfort because it is at this place that the true growth can take place.

Another benefit of yin yoga is the ability to stretch the tight structures of the hips and low back to allow for increased comfort throughout the day as well as when practicing sitting meditation. Tightness in the hips is a primary contributor to knee and back pain. Yin Yoga poses work through chronically tight tissues of the body to free them and allow for fluidity of movement.

Yin yoga strengthens not only the body but the mind as well. Remaining in poses for up to 15 minutes becomes a mental practice just as much as physical. The mind softens at the same time the body surrenders and the whole experience opens up for a revolutionized experience of living. With time, Yin Yoga has the potential to dramatically improve the flexibility, strength, and resiliency of the body and mind.
